Matthew "Ric" Mattmuller's Obituary
AURORA Matthew Richard "Ric" Mattmuller, 86 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Saturday May 12, 2012 at his residence in Aurora. Mr. Mattmuller was God's Gift to Us on May 9, 1926 in Vero Beach, Florida, the son of the late Matthew and Wilhelmina (Kellermann) Mattmuller. Formerly of Painesville and Willoughby, Ohio, Ric had resided in Aurora since 1957.Ric was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in World War II in the Pacific, following which he attended Ohio Northern University where he earned his B.S. in Pharmacy. A registered Pharmacist from 1950-2006, he was the owner-operator of Aurora Pharmacy which was the 1st. pharmacy in Aurora from 1957-1989. As Mayor of Aurora from 1980-1984, he was instrumental in the planning and completion of the new fire station, police station and extensive remodeling of the Town Hall. From 1986-1990, he also served as a Aurora councilman. Ric was a very service oriented gentleman, where as a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, he served as president and elected Citizen of the year in 1985.He was a Life member of the VFW and a charter member of the American Legion Post # 803.He also was instrumental in building the new War Memorial in Aurora. He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, serving as president in 1965. Ric held professional memberships in the Ohio Pharmaceutical Association and was a lifetime member of the Summit County Pharmaceutical Association. A charter member of Hope Lutheran Church, he served as President, Elder and in numerous positions. Ric was a member of the Dahlia Society, Ohio Bluebird Association, North American Bluebird Association, Docent and Life member of the Aurora Historical Society, member of the Great Lakes Light House Association and the Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteers. For his many years as an active supporter of the Aurora Schools, he was voted by the Aurora School Foundation a "Friend of the Schools" honoree. In 2006 he was the Grand Marshall of the Aurora 4th. Of July celebration. On August 28, 1949, he married Donna (Miller) Mattmuller who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Dave (Dianna) Mattmuller of Aurora, Steve (Michele) Mattmuller of Centerville, Ohio, Jack (Elane) Mattmuller of Vermilion, Ohio and Ann (Tony) Karenbrock of Liberty, Missouri; his brother Norman (Joan) Mattmuller of Jacksonville, Florida; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Jack Mattmuller and Marian Marschall. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. & 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. Funeral services for Mr. Mattmuller will be Thursday May 17,2012, 11:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, 456 South Chillicothe Rd., Aurora with Pastor Dennis Mann officiating. Mr. Mattmuller will then be laid to rest at Aurora City Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the "Gifts for Yanks" fund which benefits Veterans Nursing Home. Donations can be sent to American Legion Post # 803,P.O.
