Maxine Hauxhurst's Obituary
GARRETTSVILLE-BEDFORD Maxine Hauxhurst, 94 years of age, passed away Saturday October 24, 2015 at her home in Garrettsville. Born in Parkman Township, on July 26,1921, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Alice (Randall) Smith. Raised in Parkman, Maxine then attended and was a 1939 graduate of Hiram High School where she was class Valectorian.A resident of Garrettsville the past 18 years, she formerly lived in Bedford for 45 years. Mrs. Hauxhurst was a member of the Bedford Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir and devoted herself to assist her church in any way as called upon. A lady who loved to entertain, her home and hospitality were open to everyone, and she will be remembered for the many times that she prepared and served meals for families who were having calling hours for their loved ones, bringing them into her home between visitations so as to find a place for relaxation and a meal . An avid reader, she also played bridge for 45 years with her lady friends on a regular basis. Family and friends will forever have cherished memories of her warm and generous loving spirit that was there for all to whom she came to know. Survivors include her sons James (Susan) Hauxhurst of Perry, Ohio, William Hauxhurst of Burton, Ohio and Robert Hauxhurst of Rittman, Ohio, her daughters Mary Ellen Spoto of Garrettsville, Ohio and Susan Kraus of San Antonio, Texas, sisters Jeannette Loomis of Middlefield, Ohio, Bernice (Joe) Wells of Parkman, Ohio, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. On February 12, 1944, she married Paul Hauxhurst who preceded her in death in 1984. Also preceding was her sister Marge Gray, and brothers Forrest Smith, Stanley Smith and Donald Smith. Funeral services for Mrs. Hauxhurst will be Wednesday October 28, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at the Bedford Church of the Nazarene, 365 Center Road, Bedford, Ohio 44146 , where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Officiating will be Pastor Ernie Ley. Immediately following her funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the church. Mrs. Hauxhurst will then be laid to rest at Overlook Cemetery in Parkman, Ohio Wednesday at 2:00 P.M.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, Ohio.
