Raymond Harold Mullett's Obituary
WARREN Raymond Harold Mullett, 85 years of age of Warren, Ohio passed away Monday December 29, 2008 at St. Joseph's Health Center in Warren after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 2, 1923 in Kenmore, Ohio he was the son of the late David Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Siefert) Mullett. A lifetime resident of the Windham area, Ray had attended Windham High School, was a former Windham Councilman, a member of the Windham United Church of Christ and served both as a member and officer of the Windham Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years. Ray worked as a Surveyor and helped survey the Ravenna Arsenal, worked as a trainman at Silica Sand Company, then as a crane operator on the docks in Cleveland. He also was employed for U.S. Gypsum and Wean Manufacturing in Warren where he was a millwright. While working and raising his family he took up a hobby. In his garage he set up a small print shop. He printed after work and on weekends and was soon doing most of the printing for Windham's businesses, churches, and the school. Later he built a bigger shop in the basement of his home and continued to print there until he bought Justice Printing Company in 1981 in Warren, at which time he and his wife moved to Warren. He and his wife owned and operated that business with their son Reed until their passing. Ray served his country in World War II in the United States Army Air Corp and was a Corporal in the HQ Squadron 386th. Bomb Group stationed in England, France and Belgium being a mapmaker and flight planner. Ray was a longtime member of Windham Post No. 674 American Legion. On October 25, 1941 he married his wife of 66 years, Christine Elma (Comyns) Mullett, who preceded him in death on November 14, 2007. Survivors include his daughters Carole (Richard) Baker of Winter Park, Florida and Amity, Pennsylvania, Wanda (Fred) Fortney of Garrettsville, and sons Richard (Anne) Mullett of Ravenna, Ron (Phyllis) Mullett of Leavittsburg and Reed Mullett of Warren, nine grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all his sisters and brothers-in-law Florence (Clark) Thompson, Althea (Walter) Rahz, Margaret (Paul) Braden and brother and sister-in-law Edward (Maxine) Mullett. No calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be Saturday January 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Windham Township Cemetery with the Rev. W. Douglas Snyder officiating. Ray will be carried to his final resting place by the Windham Fire Department whose members will act as pallbearers to show their respect for his many years of dedicated service to their department and his community. Full military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army. A Celebration of Life gathering and luncheon for all family and friends will follow the services at the Brick Chapel in Windham.
