Richard J. Atkinson's Obituary
SHALERSVILLE Richard J. Atkinson, 58 years of age, passed away Thursday March 24, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Atkinson was born on February 10, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Walter P. and Margaret R. (Bialko) Atkinson. A resident of the Shalersville area the past 25 years, he presently was employed as a truck driver at Aurora Pump & Process, and formerly was a longtime employee of Solon Sand & Gravel as a truck driver and in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua. Mr. Atkinson enjoyed working on trucks and tractors and was truly a handyman. He was a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity in Ravenna. On May 28, 1977, he married his beloved wife Ellen K. (Wolfgang) Atkinson who survives at their residence. Also surviving are his devoted daughters Robin (David) Frantz of Troutville, Pennsylvania, Michelle (Mike) Clark of Ravenna and Ricki (Charles) Bohatka of Parma, his dear siblings Walter (Rosemary) Atkinson of Rootstown, Tom (Jackie) Atkinson of Warren, Bill (Gale) Atkinson of Kent, John (Lorrie) Atkinson of Mantua, Jim (Diane) Atkinson of Kentucky, Bob (Cindy) Atkinson of Ravenna, Steve Atkinson of Florida and Joe (Nancy) Atkinson and Dave (Beth) Atkinson both of Arizona and his sister Mary Atkinson of Ravenna. Mr. Atkinson is also the loving grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 1. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where prayers will be said Monday at 9:15 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday March 28, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua with Rev. Michael Garvey officiating. Mr. Atkinson will be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township.
