Richard G. Johnson's Obituary
HIRAM TWP. - MANTUARichard G. Johnson, 81 years of age, passed away Sunday May 13, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Johnson was born On October 14, 1930 in Logan Twp., Pennsylvania, the son of the late Harold M. and Ruth S. (Strunk) Johnson. A resident of the Hiram-Mantua area the past 37 years, he formerly was a longtime Wickliffe resident, and a 1948 graduate of Wickliffe High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Alaska. Following his military duty, he attended and graduated from Western Reserve University with his B.S. in Philosophy, and also then attended Ohio State University. Mr. Johnson was employed at Allegheny Steel and then at H.&D. Steel as a stainless steel salesman from where he retired in 1978.He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0888. Gardening and farming were activities that he especially enjoyed following his retirement. On September 30, 1975, he married Barbara J. (Wilson) Johnson who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Richard (Collette) Johnson of Warsaw, Virginia and Andrea (David) Patton of Mantua; his brother Rodger (Pat) Johnson of Congress, Ohio and his loving granddaughter Nevada Leigh. He was preceded in death in 2007 by his granddaughter Geneva Evelyn. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held Friday May 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. William Brew officiating. Visitation will also be Friday from 10:30 A.M. until service time. Mr. Johnson will then be laid to rest at Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom Township with military honors.
