Richard Perry Masters' Obituary
Richard Perry Masters of Hiram, formerly of Chagrin Falls, Ohio died July 10, 2026, at the age of 90. He lived a rich life full of teaching, learning, and joyful servitude for his friends and family. He was the only child of Hazel and Wilbur A. Masters, born on the Sanford-Beal-Masters homestead established in 1832 in Hiram, Ohio.
Richard was an active member and leader in the Hiram Christian Church since childhood and later serving as an honored elder. During his time in Chagrin Falls, he attended and served at the Federated Church.
Richard was proud of his long career in teaching, and the impact he had on his students during his 37 years at Orange City Schools. He taught every grade K-12 covering math, science, reading and life skills. He went above and beyond for his family, friends, and students alike. He enjoyed traveling: local field trips with his senior groups, vacations throughout the United States with his family, and trips to Africa and Europe as a youth.
Richard was impassioned with lifelong learning, taking courses well into his late 80s. His service presented him with so many opportunities, earned him countless certificates, and helped him touch so many lives. Many people would seek out his expertise as a grant writer, gardener, local historian, community leader, financial, and legal advisor.
Richard is survived by his beloved son Mark (Betty) Masters of Parma Ohio; dear daughter Genevieve Green Masters of Hiram Ohio; Grandchildren Nicole Masters (Mike Liska), Michala Masters (Brendan Sweeney), Rebecca Masters and adopted granddaughter Somier Martin. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Sarah Elizabeth Masters in 1990, and former wife Anne Marie Masters. Richard is also survived by former wife and devoted friend Margaret Green-Masters of Hiram, Ohio.
The family will receive friends for a celebration of life service at HIRAM CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 6868 Wakefield Rd, Hiram, OH 44234 on Saturday, July 25th from 1 to 4PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Hiram College Library (Box 67 Hiram, Ohio 44234), Hiram Christian Church Garden Fund (Box 967 Hiram, Ohio 44234), or the Parma Senior Center where Richard was active while living with his son (7001 West Ridgewood Dr. Parma, Ohio 44129).
