Richard J. Palmer's Obituary
FREEDOM-MANTUARichard J. Palmer, 57 years of age, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday September 26, 2011 surrounded by his loving family, following his courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 10, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harold and Esther (Gilham) Palmer. Formerly of Garrettsville, Mr. Palmer had been a resident of Freedom and Mantua areas the past 16 years. A 1972 graduate of Ledgemont High School, he was employed the past 9 years by the Rootstown Schools in the maintenance department. An avid reader, he also enjoyed fishing, history, his music of the 1960's and was an accomplished Arborist whose tree gardens were known to many. Richard also truly loved "Playing in his backyard" as he referred to the times he spent outdoors at the family residence. On July 2, 1977, he married Marjorie (Cain) Palmer who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Josh (Stacy) Palmer of Streetsboro, Dalton Michael at home and Anne (David) Miller of Brunswick, his siblings Jeff (Karen) Palmer of Chardon, Jim Palmer of Burton, Dennis (Jane) Palmer of Chesterland and Patricia (Charles) Donaldson of West Farmington, his grandson Jacob Wolfram and his longtime best friend Bill Balog. Richard is also survived by 9 foster children who he and Marjorie are proud to be foster parents of. Preceding him in death was his sister Linda Moran, his brother John T. Palmer, his father-in-law Robert Cain and niece Jennifer Moran-Jewell. No calling hours or services. At his request cremation has taken place.
