Richard O. Payne's Obituary
BAINBRIDGE TWP. Richard O. Payne, 94 years of age, passed away Tuesday January 13, 2015 in Aurora, Ohio. Born in Aurora, Ohio on January 1, 1921, he was the son of the late Pierre and Esther ( Howard) Payne. A graduate of Aurora High School, he had been a resident of Bainbridge Township since 1956. Richard had been employed as a machinist at Cleveland Pneumatic Tool for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. Richard was a member of the Ohio Maple Producers Association, and was well known in Geauga County as a maple syrup producer, having operated his own sugar house for many years.An active square dancer, he was a member of the Hubs Square Dance Club for more than 30 years where he and his wife Thelma shared many times and friendships together. Richard also was a member of the Bainbridge Community United Church of Christ, where he participated in numerous church functions including as a member of the church choir. On February 12, 1944, he married Thelma ( Frost) Payne who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Gary ( Robin) Payne of Cleveland Hts., Kevin ( Jane) Payne of Peninsula, Ohio, Dean ( Lauren) Payne of Bainbridge Twp., Jan Terradotter of Berea, Ohio, Victoria ( Dave) Bradford of Dublin, Ohio and Cynthia ( Rodbard) Payne-Meyer of Putney, Vermont, his siblings Duane( Marilyn) Payne and Carolyn Payne both of Ravenna, Ohio and Paula Kline of Green Twp., Ohio. 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his siblings Oliver Payne, Irene Wymer and Marian Nelson. Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, St.Rt. 44 at the corner of 4668 Pioneer Trail ( S. of Rt. 422) Mantua, Ohio 44255. Funeral services will be Saturday January 17, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at the Bainbridge Community United Church of Christ, 17751 Chillicothe Rd., Chagrin Falls, Ohio 44023 with Rev. Shaun Drefahl officiating. Final resting place will follow at Restland Cemetery in Bainbridge Twp., Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Indian Education Foundation, P.O.Box 6041, Albert Lea MN 56007-9840 or to his church.
