It was an honor to serve as a fire fighter and officer under Chief, Bob Russell. His dedication to the community was never-ending. In those days most of the work on the fire station and all the rolling equipment was done by the firemen themselves. Bob would spend many Sundays at the station with his friend George making repairs on whatever was needed. Of course, when the fire siren sounded, Bob was always there in his red Chief's coat leading and directing the response of the firemen. Early in his career, as an Assistant Chief, he encouraged the formation of a Junior Fire Department. Many adult firemen began their career as "Juniors." He was a generous man with outstanding integrity. His sons modeled his behavior. Bob's contribution to our community was exceptional. He will be missed by many.
