Roger Paul Gonczy's Obituary
Roger Paul Gonczy, of Mantua, Ohio, passed away surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with cancer on October 1st, 2025. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, remembered most for his kind heart, unmatched carpentry skills, and deep love for both his family and animals.
Born to the late Paul and Esther Gonczy, Roger was preceded in death by his beloved parents and sisters, Bonnie Shoemaker and Dawnie Engdal.
He is survived by his children, Stacie (Scott) Ferry of Leavittsburg, Ohio, and David (Kristin) Gonczy of Estero, Florida; grandchildren, Sierra Ruff of Litchfield, Ohio, Colton Ruff of Garrettsville, Ohio, William Fountain of Garrettsville, Dylan Gonczy and Logan Gonczy, both of Estero, Florida; and great-grandchildren, Oakleigh and Liam Fountain, who brought immense joy to his life.
Roger is also survived by his loving sisters: Linda Smith of Yerington, NV; Missy (Brian) Artrup of Spring Creek, NV; Heather (Chris) Vesey of Champion, OH; and Kerry (Shaun) Petrie of Mantua, OH.
He leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of dear friends, all of whom were touched by his generous spirit and good humor.
A master carpenter by trade, Roger had an eye for detail and hands that could build just about anything. He was a lifelong lover of sports and took great joy in tinkering with tractors and other vehicles. But above all, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his family. He will be remembered for his warmth, big heart, and the way he cared deeply for every and any animal he encountered.
Roger's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local Animal Protective League in Roger's honor.
A gathering of friends and family will take place Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 12-4 PM at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail, Mantua, Ohio. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11 AM at Green Funeral Care, with interment at Westlawn Cemetery to follow.
