Russell G. Thompson's Obituary
Russell G. Thompson, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with family.
Born to Marion (Gradwell) Thompson Mack and Gordon H. Thompson on August 6th, 1942. Younger brother to Richard Thompson and Gordon L. Thompson; older brother to John Mack and Ken Mack.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue (Bramley) Thompson, his daughter Christy Thompson, granddaughter Evie Thompson and brothers John Mack and Ken (Linda) Mack; Sisters-in-law Faye (Richard) Thompson, Cindy (Gordon) Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Cleveland Ohio, his family moved to Mantua when he was 6, after the death of his father. He graduated from Crestwood High School, married Sue, his high school sweetheart, and raised his family in Mantua. His family was very important to him, including his nieces and nephews.
He was an athletic man most of his life, playing baseball, basketball and football in school, and then later hunting, fishing, bowling, tennis, walking/hiking and golfing. A trip to Mexico long ago with his then girlfriend Sue Bramley and future in laws Polly (Stamm) and Larry Bramley started a love of travel that lasted all of his life.
He was a quiet man with a good sense of humor, and liked to laugh. He was solid as a rock, loyal, strong-willed, and a hard worker. He was a proud Army veteran and served in Vietnam.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Green Funeral Care, 4668 Pioneer Trail (at the corner of State Route 44), Mantua, on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM with a funeral service to immediately follow at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Mantua.
