Columbus S. McGhee's Obituary
HIRAMColumbus S. "Chris" McGhee, Jr., 71 years of age, passed Wednesday May 16,2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Black Mountain Harlan, Kentucky on December 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Columbus S. and Mary Ethel (Spurlock) McGhee, Sr. A resident of the Hiram area the past 39 years, he had been employed at White Motors in Cleveland for 21 years, following which he presently was employed the past 20 years as a pumper at Enerbest Inc. Chris was a man of many talents which included obtaining his airplane pilot license, making model planes and flying them, formerly operating a VW shop in Streetsboro, and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He had an appreciation and love for the outdoors that included the land we live on, nature and birds. He was a gentleman loved by many and will never be forgotten. Just remember his famous words to make you smile in the days ahead... "I'm alright." On August 27, 1978, he married Karen S. (Bormuth) McGhee who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Michelle (Mark) Stone of Shalersville, Chris (Suzi) McGhee of Chardon, Russell Vaughn of Kent and James (Karen) Vaughn of Canton, Georgia, siblings Matt McGhee of New York, Tim (Jenifer) Lewis of Cleveland and Mary Etta Surnak of Rootstown and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Jewell Fair.No calling hours. A Celebration of his Life will begin at 2:00 P.M. on June 9, 2012 at the family residence in Hiram, where family and friends will join together in a casual setting and fondly remember and share stories about Chris. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
