Thomas Lee Newcomb's Obituary
PARKMAN Thomas Lee Newcomb, 61 years of age, became Our Gift to God on Friday October 28, 2016 at his residence in Parkman Township, Ohio. Tom was God?s Gift to Us in Ravenna, Ohio on December 7, 1954, the son of the late Rolland E. and Vera (Bell) Newcomb. A resident of Parkman since 1987, Tom was a graduate of James A. Garfield High School in 1973, following which he earned his B.A. degree in elementary education, reading and special education from Hiram College in 1977. Tom then received his M.Ed. degree from Lesley College in 1983 and his D.Litt. (1988) and Ph.D. in Education from Nova College in 1991.Tom was recognized and honored with many teaching and leadership awards. He was employed as an elementary school teacher at Bloomfield-Mespo School District from 1977 until his retirement in 2009. He was a member, and Chaplin that loved his church family at North East Community Church in Burton. Tom enjoyed a life of learning and sharing that included his knowledge of Covered Bridges and writing about the Amish way of life. He had a passion for music, and was known as a ?Classic Rocker?. A man of great intelligence, and a love for learning, his personality included a keen sense of humor, a love of family and will be remembered as a great cook which he and his son Matthew shared together. On July 28, 1984, he married his devoted wife Kathy (Palmer) Newcomb, who along with his beloved son Matthew, and his loving Alaskan Malamute child ?Skye?, survive at their home. Also surviving are his dear brothers Robert (Deborah) Newcomb of Warren, Ohio and Donald (Tami) Newcomb of Mansfield, Ohio, caring mother-in-law Thelma Palmer of Senecaville, Ohio, and cherished special friends Shelly Cole of Middlefield and Ray Porter of Akron, and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. Calling hours will be Wednesday November 2, 2016 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and on Thursday November 3, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Officiating will be Pastor Brian Westover, assisted by Pastor Rick Hughes. Final resting place will follow at Harrington Cemetery, Nelson Township, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, and at Tom?s request, memorial donations would be appreciated to the Defenders of Wildlife P.O.Box 1553, Merrifield, VA 22116 or the Alaskan Malamute Rescue Society.
