Velda L Taylor's Obituary
HIRAMVelda L. Taylor, 82 years of age of Hiram, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Akron General Medical Center. Mrs. Taylor was born on December 8, 1926 in Falls Mills, West Virginia the daughter of the late Gordon and Retha (Bowyer) Dyer. A resident of the Hiram area since 1952, she had been employed by Hiram College in the Food Service Department, retiring after 35 years of service. Mrs. Taylor enjoyed traveling and taking long walks with her husband, as they both found pleasure in the outdoors and the animals that crossed their path, was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and she developed a large owl collection over the years. She was a member of the Hiram Christian Church. On December 30, 1950, she married Kenneth Taylor who survives at their home. Also surviving are her sons Kenneth L. (Kathryn) Taylor of Cooper City, Florida and Jeffery B. (Sherry) Taylor of Nelson, brothers Leonard of Kentucky, Berl of Maryland, Terry of North Carolina and Gary of West Virginia, sisters Opaline Prince of Windham, Ila Hamilton of Ohio, Wilma Sands of West Virginia and Karen Dyer of North Carolina, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild also survive. She was preceded in death by her brother Elwood Dyer and sister Freda Buchman. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where the funeral services will be Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Roger McKinney officiating. Mrs. Taylor will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram.
