Virgil A. Derthick's Obituary
MANTUA TOWNSHIP Virgil A. Derthick, 102 years of age, passed away Wednesday February 3, 2010 in Sacramento, California. Mr. Derthick was born in Mantua Township, Ohio on December 13, 1907, the son of the late Adelbert and Laura (Washburn) Derthick. A lifetime area resident, he operated the Derthick Family Dairy Farm until his retirement. Following his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed worldwide traveling and spending the winter months in Florida, Texas and Arizona. He was a longtime member of the Mantua Center Christian Church, a member of Mantua Masonic Lodge No. 533 F. & A.M., Grange, Farm Bureau and MPF. He also served for many years as a member of the Crestwood School Board. Mr. Derthick enjoyed golfing and had a passion for photography. On December 1, 1935, he married Ella M. (Reed) Derthick who preceded him in death in 2002. 1 grandchild also preceded him in death. Survivors include his children Philip (Marie) Derthick of Mantua, F. Allan (Karen) Derthick of Churchville, New York and Nancy A. (Don Yanssens) Derthick off Sacramento, California, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. No calling hours. A Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday May 29, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mantua Center Christian Church with Rev. Chad Delaney officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the church. A private family burial at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township has been held. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
