Seeing myself as a liberated female that wanted to be a career woman, I hated the Home Ec class we were forced to take in Middle School (6th Grade I believe), and anything that screamed house wife or secretary. So when I got to High School, I steered clear of any Home Economics classes. But Mrs. Goodell was still A Force to be Reckoned With if you were walking down any hall near her classroom, and acting up, and you should be terrified if you were violating the dress code in any way (e.g., skirts too short).
A good while back, I had the pleasure of touring her lovely home at the Mantua Xmas tour. Her granddaughter Lisa & my niece Andrea were good friends, so we shared a few stories. I told her about my teenage opinions on Home Ec, but even though I was a career woman, I was now an absolute fan of Martha Stewart, I had a small garden, I watched a lot of cooking shows and cooked most of our meals, and although I still had no sewing skills, I was addicted to Project Runway.
Needless to say, she was amused, because she too was all of those things and a business woman to boot!
Her memory is a blessing.
