Vondell Nelson, 80 years of age, passed away Tuesday May 5, 2020 at his residence. Born in Ranger, West Virginia on May 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Wealthy (Workman) Nelson. A longtime Cleveland resident, he moved to Streetsboro over 2 years ago, and was a member of the Brady Lake Baptist Church. Mr. Nelson had been employed for the City of Cleveland Sanitation Department, and for over 30 years as a truck driver for ETN AXEL Trucking in Cleveland for where he then retired. His favorite pastime was fishing, and memories of his love of family and grandchildren, and their love for him will forever be cherished. Survivors include his beloved wife Dixie Lee (Richards) Nelson at home, his devoted children Vondell Donnie (Lisa) Nelson of Aurora, Toni (Robert) Francis of Lakewood and Janice Babcock of Coshocton, Ohio, 40 loving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Ricky Dale Nelson, siblings Victor, Vester, Virgil, Vernon, Virlin Nelson, Naomi Lambert and Mary Nelson. Visitation will be held Monday May 11, 2020 with social distancing maintained at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., where a private funeral service will then begin at 11:00 A.M. Officiating will be Pastor Virgil Elkins. Final resting place will then follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Twp., Ohio. Procession to the cemetery will form at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M.
