Walter R. Chenchik's Obituary
HIRAM Walter R. Chenchik, 76 years of age, passed away Wednesday October 19, 2011 at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on August 2, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Michael and Theresa (Taschek) Chenchik. Mr. Chenchik attended Loras College, following which he graduated from the University of San Francisco where he earned his California General Secondary degree in mathematics. A. U.S. Army veteran, he then joined and served in the Peace Corps beginning in 1963. A resident of the Hiram area since 1969, Mr. Chenchik received his Masters in 1969 from John Carroll University in Cleveland in Physics. In 1972, he became a member of the staff at Crestwood School System where he taught math at the High School until his retirement in 1990. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua. A man of many talents, he enjoyed working with tools, woodworking, building, masonry and gardening, taking great pride with his meticulous nature in all projects that he accomplished. On August 25, 1967, he married Michelle (Webb) Chenchik who survives at their home. Also surviving is his daughter Catherine (Edward) Geiser of Saint Bernard, Ohio, 1 sister Carolyn (Larry) Burns of Darlington, Wisconsin and 4 grandchildren Maria, Joseph, Dominic and Maximilian. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday October 29, 2011 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, Wisconsin, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Mr. Chenchik will then be laid to rest at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Darlington with military honors.
