MANTUA TWP. William H. Pollard,Jr., 91 years of age, passed away Sunday April 29, 2012 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 15, 1920, he was the son of the late William H. and Catherine (Thomas) Pollard, Sr. A resident of the Mantua area since 1948, Mr. Pollard was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a Ships Captain, retiring after 45 years of service. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Merchant Marine Corps. An avid reader, Mr. Pollard was very knowledgeable in many topics, and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and being at home with his family. On October 6, 1944, he married Jean V. Pollard who preceded him in death on January 10, 2009. Also preceding him was his brother Samuel Pollard and sister Catherine Sheridan. Survivors include his sons William H.Pollard, 3rd. of Mantua, Brian H. (Stacey) Pollard of Stuart, Florida and his granddaughter Megan. Calling hours will be Wednesday 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held Thursday May 3, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. Mr. Pollard will then be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township, Ohio.
