Kathlyn (Mazzotta) Brown's Obituary
AURORA Kathlyn Brown, nee Mazzotta, 67 years of age passed away on October 2, 2016 after a short stay at Hospice House in Medina. She lived most of her life in Aurora, Ohio. She was born on August 2, 1949, to the late Phyllis Marie Wendt Mazzotta and Raymond Joseph Mazzotta. She was predeceased by her brother, Mark and her niece and goddaughter, Christina Mazzotta. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Byron Brown and siblings Toni Mazzotta (Tom Mlinar), Mary Ann (Paul) Lepp, Patricia (Matthew) Smith, Richard, and sister-in-law Angela. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Maria, Sasha, Mark, Rachel, Stella, Kristen, and Joel. Also important in her life are her pets Jett, Klauss, and Lilly. Her childhood was spent in Mantua. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1967. Her college experience included a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in French and Minor in Spanish; and a Master?s Degree in Library Science from Kent State University. She enjoyed three engaging careers: Teaching French and Spanish at West Geauga Junior High for 11 years then transitioning to the High School librarian for 19 years. Her final career stint was as Director of Professional Development and Outreach at the Graduate School of Education at Kent State University. Through her multiple careers, she enriched the lives of so many people. The world was Kathlyn?s palette. She was very fortunate to see amazing places in her journeys and adventures. Her favorite cities included Aurora; Charleston, South Carolina; and Paris. A Francophone and Francophile, she celebrated the love of many cultures. She and Byron loved the beach and had a second home at Kiawah Island. After her official retirement from the education profession she became very active on the Board of Trustees for the Aurora Historical Society. She also belonged to the Aurora Study Club and the Moebius Nature Center. Her most recent foray was into the world of writing. She published her first title ?The Vest Pocket Edition to Delectable Sweets? in 2014. Her equine Lilly provided the inspiration for her second tome ?Lilly and Elvis; More than a Horses? Tale.? Part adventure, part instruction, it imparts beauty and joy on every page. Cremation and private interment have taken place. A memorial to Kathlyn, officiated by the Reverend Kevin Horak, will take place on Saturday,October 22, 2016 at the Church in Aurora at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or to one of Kathlyn?s favorites: The Portage County Animal Protective League, the Moebius Nature Center, or the Deed House Project of the Aurora Historical Society.
