At Hiram, Robert was my professor and advisor and the first person to introduce me to arts administration, which became my career.He was supportive and challenging. I can still hear the exasperated sigh that was his trademark response to our shenanigans in class, rehearsal, scene shop, or outside his office door. He threw candy at us. He sent us back to the drawing board when needed. He encouraged us, told us we had it in ourselves to figure things out. He was kind, and a big part of my Hiram experience - both as a student and then a colleague. 30 years later - I am grateful. ❤️

I knew Robert from his time as an antique dealer at Auntie's Antique Mall. I knew that he was a professor at Hiram but reading some of the memories from former students it's quite amazing what an impact he had on their lives. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone and enjoyed working with customers at the mall. He will be missed. My sincere sympathies to his sons, family, friends, and to Bill a long time friend and his partner at Auntie's. Rest in peace

I dont have a single story, but a collection of experiences working with him over my time at Hiram that has lead me to emulate him in a career I have now been at for 35 years - and in which Robert still serves as my role model. FORM A HUMAN CHAIN!

Robert, wild Walt Whitman of the scene shop, I will never forget you. You made astonishing and wonderful worlds with every set you dreamed up and taught us how to build.
Your influence on my world is immense and immeasurable. I learned 2 or 3 things I can name, under your study, and a thousand others I don't know how to quantify. Thank you for your decency, your vision, and your unlikely role model of a fabulous second act of life. May you rest in power.

Robert removed barriers that I saw in getting involved in theater for the first time. "I don't know how to use tools". "You're here to learn and we'll teach you"..."can I make a living in design/tech?" "What do you think I'm doing?" ... I fondly recall being on the receiving end of thrown things in class but it was chalk more often than candy 🤣 Robert gave a young me the push and encouragement I needed to grow outside Hiram Theater, for which I'm grateful to this day.
Quick with a laugh, and a sight to see with that mane of white hair and white beard bundled and pulled back when he was using tools, Robert is remembered fondly 💕

I am so thankful that I was lucky enough to cross paths with Robert on this plane. He was such an important part of my time at Hiram College and provided caring and patient guidance as I tried to figure out who I was going to be as a grown-up. While I still haven't quite figured that out, I do know that he taught me great lessons in creativity, passion, and patience. Thank you to Robert's family for sharing him with his other kids - the Hiram kids - for so many years.

Robert Moeller taught me many, many things during my four years as a theatre major at Hiram College, but the two most important things he taught me were “Theatre is a collaborative art” and to believe in myself even if the rest of the world thought I was crazy. I have been teaching and directing a high school theatre program for the past twenty-two years because Robert believed in me and gave me many opportunities to learn and grow and believe in myself. I worked twelve shows with Robert—and I’ll never forget the two of us hammering nails in a set at four o’clock in the morning. He was kind and practical and pushed me when I needed pushing. He knew the value of theatre students working in all the technical crews, and he didn’t ever let us settle if he knew we had more talent or more sweat to give. I would’ve given up on myself long ago if Robert hadn’t had been there to keep me grounded. A few weeks ago, someone said I might be able to see Robert at the antique store, so I planned to go and to tell him all these things—and now I am too late. Robert’s lessons will always be with me, and I continue to pass them down to my students. I am forever grateful to Robert and am truly sorry that he is gone.
