Russell Gill's Obituary
Obituary
SHALERSVILLE
Russell L. Gill, 91 of Shalersville, OH, passed away on May 17, 2022. Born on February 27, 1931, in Twinsburg, OH, he was the son of John H. and Grace N. (Meyers) Gill. Russ served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict. After his service he started a career in the construction business, later forming his own company Gill Construction. He was also a licensed real estate agent and proud lifetime member of the Home Builders Association (HBA) serving Portage and Summit Counties. Russ was never one to be comfortable with idleness lest it got him into minor troubles thinking up ways to mischievously mess with those he knew and loved. He always had a project ahead of him be it gardening, a stint at keeping chickens, or helping others with their own projects. Since he did not believe in retirement he decided, in his sixties, to build one of the first motels in Streetsboro as well as a large office complex that he managed until his death. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Gill, his son, John M. Gill, and his great grandson, Caleb Schobinger. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, daughters Cheryl (Dale) Smith, Sandy (Mike) Krutel, and step-daughters Gina (Jason) Oden and Sara (Rob) Nyitray. Russ was a proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation hours will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail, at the corner of ST. RT. 44, Mantua, OH, 44255 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. Final resting place will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg, Ohio, where full Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of The Mantua American Legion Post #193. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family encourages that masks are worn during the visitation and service.
